From an observer outside the field

I learned about Dr. Parker's gruesome plight from The Chronicle of Higher Education (Washington, D.C.). Although the entire publishing industry is in trouble, it seems particularly heartless--not to speak of short-sighted--to grind up the decade of work by this scholar in service of . . .what? We're not speaking of a Hollywood blockbuster here. The impression the situation gives to an outsider, like me, is of extreme disorganization behind the scenes, coupled, perhaps, with censorious maneuvering at the highest editorial levels, overlaid by a healthy dollop of indifference on the part of the new owners to everything save contractual and fiduciary matters.
Pretty daunting--although you Shakespeareans demonstrate a lot of impressive moxie. And you might prevail. Courage. Ye that outlive this day, and come safe home, will stand a tip-toe when the day is named.
